Substance Use Recovery
The road to recovery from substance use disorder is different for every person. Working with both youth and adults, KYC offers both clinical behavioral health services and non-clinical support groups to provide individualized care to each person. Clients can participate in both programs or whichever fits their recovery goals and needs.

Clinical Substance Use Prevention and Recovery (SUPR)
SUPR services provide clinical treatment interventions to people struggling with a wide range of substance use problems and disorders. Clients are treated using a comprehensive treatment model that integrates evidence-based concepts and incorporates several therapeutic techniques to address substance use behaviors.
We are proud to provide an integrated approach to co-occurring mental health and substance use issues, recognizing the importance of addressing both together in order to best serve the whole person.
Services may include individual, group, and/or family therapy. Clinicians will provide coordinated care with the client’s personal, medical, and community support contacts as needed.
Outpatient Programs (OP) and Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) are available for youth and adults. IOP groups meet three times per week, and individual and family sessions are scheduled by appointment. IOP clients should prepare for a treatment commitment of around ten hours per week, with a decreased time commitment as progress is made.
Young Adult Cannabis Reduction Group
Young adults ages 18 – 30 are welcome to join us for a weekly open dialogue about cannabis use. Learn new skills regarding harm reduction strategies, relapse prevention, recovery, and relationships.
Group participants do not need to be ready to commit to abstinence from cannabis to attend. People at all stages of recovery are welcome.
We meet in person, weekly on Tuesdays 2:00p‑4:00p at our Elk Grove Village location. To participate in this group, please email suprservices@kennethyoung.org.
Adolescent SUPR Services, ages 12 – 18 (until high school graduation)
Adolescents and their families receive education on the brain chemistry and progression of addiction, stages of change, and the specific effects substance use has on emotions, thoughts, and behaviors as the mind and body are developing. Multifaceted treatment approaches focus on the unique cognitive and developmental changes that occur during adolescence. Services include individual and group therapy, where adolescents explore topics of peer pressure and other outside influences in their lives that may expose them to substances. Clinicians will provide coordinated care with a client’s school supports, individual therapist, psychiatrist, and nurse practitioner as needed.
Adult SUPR Services
Services include case management, individual, group, and family therapy. Topics covered include understanding addiction as a disease, relapse prevention, improving communication and building healthy relationships, improving self-image, building coping skills, establishing healthy routines, and connecting with local support communities.
Co-Occuring Disorder Groups
Building Blocks: Creating a Foundation For Change
The Building Blocks group is open to adults 18+ who are unsure of where to start their recovery journey. Participants in this group will be engaged in conversations about the impact of substance use and mental health symptoms in daily life, receive support in identifying personal goals, and learn about motivational skill-building for making long-term changes.
This group meets weekly in person. Day and Time TBA. This group will take place at our Elk Grove Village location. To participate in this group, please email suprservices@kennethyoung.org.
Seeking Safety
Seeking Safety is a present-focused group. The goal of this group is to focus on how your symptoms affect you today and what coping skills you can use to manage symptoms. Individuals who struggle with trauma and risky behaviors including substance use, self-harm, disordered eating, codependency, or any other process addictions are invited to attend this group.
This group meets once a week in person for 2 hours at our Elk Grove Village location. We are now accepting referrals. To participate in this group, please email suprservices@kennethyoung.org.
