May’s Message from Our CEO
Every day, an old man walked the beach with a pail, picking up starfish that had washed in by the tide and throwing them back into the sea.
One day a young boy stopped the old man and asked, “Why do you throw the starfish back? It doesn’t matter! They will only wash up on the shore again tomorrow.” The old man picked up a starfish out of his pail, threw it as far as he could into the sea and replied…
“It mattered to that one.”
At my first All Staff Meeting at KYC, I shared this message with my new team. Recently, one of our Board Members put this same message on my desk, not knowing that it was the message that started my time at KYC. Over the last three years, I have gotten to know many of the clients, staff, volunteers, donors, and partners who support KYC and the kindness of the older gentleman in this story embodies the spirit I have found across our organization. It has been my distinct pleasure to lead this organization and know that this deeply engrained compassion will continue at KYC long into the future. The Board of Directors and Leadership Team for KYC are incredibly dedicated, professional, and caring. I have complete confidence in their ability to lead the organization through this transition without missing a beat.
In just over a month, KYC will be hosting its annual 5K in Busse Woods on June 9th. As the largest fundraiser of the year, it’s critical that we raise our goal of $80,000 to support KYC’s programs and services. We’re halfway there, but we’ll need all of you to support our efforts to achieve this mighty goal. If you haven’t already, please register to fundraise on our behalf at https://kycwalk.everydayhero.do. Encourage your friends to not only donate, but create their own pages to fundraise for us as well. Every dollar gives life-changing and life-saving care to people in our community.
If you haven’t seen it already, I highly encourage you to take a few minutes to watch KYC’s newest behavioral health video. It’s powerful and beautifully shares how we impact the lives of adults in our community.
To honor the thousands of children, youth, families, adults, and older adults served by KYC, please support our fundraising and community outreach. We need you!
With gratitude and best wishes,
Susan
