KYC’s mis­sion is to part­ner with com­mu­ni­ties to sup­port peo­ple of all ages to nav­i­gate life’s chal­lenges through per­son­al­ized pre­ven­tion, inter­ven­tion, treat­ment, and recov­ery. This work is ful­filled through more than 35 inte­grat­ed pro­grams serv­ing clients of all ages across the north­west sub­urbs of Chicago.

Board Mem­ber­ship pro­vides crit­i­cal lead­er­ship, strat­e­gy, and part­ner­ship with our exec­u­tive team to grow, sup­port, and advance this mission. 

Respon­si­bil­i­ties

  • Attend and par­tic­i­pate in at least 70% of reg­u­lar and spe­cial Board meet­ings (approx­i­mate­ly 8 reg­u­lar meet­ings per year and 8 com­mit­tee meetings)
  • Pre­pare for each Board of Direc­tors meet­ing by read­ing mate­r­i­al dis­trib­uted pri­or to the meeting
  • Serve and active­ly par­tic­i­pate on at least one Board com­mit­tee (Com­mit­tees include Development/​5K, Finance, and Governance)
  • Make a per­son­al finan­cial con­tri­bu­tion to the orga­ni­za­tion of at least $1,000 apart from event participation
  • Main­tain knowl­edge of cur­rent programs
  • Share resources and tal­ents with the orga­ni­za­tion includ­ing exper­tise, con­tacts for finan­cial sup­port and con­tacts for in-kind contributions
  • Iden­ti­fy indi­vid­u­als for poten­tial mem­ber­ship on the Board of Direc­tors and its committees
  • Com­mit to serve a 3‑year term, renewed annu­al­ly in July

Qual­i­fi­ca­tions

Ide­al can­di­dates will ful­fill the fol­low­ing qualifications:

  • 8 – 10 years of cumu­la­tive pro­fes­sion­al expe­ri­ence with sig­nif­i­cant lead­er­ship accom­plish­ments or oth­er expe­ri­ence relat­ed to KYC’s mis­sion and goals (e.g., phil­an­thropy, lived expe­ri­ence, com­mit­ment to men­tal health ser­vices or old­er adult care, etc.)
  • Sound deci­sion mak­ing ability
  • Demon­strat­ed abil­i­ty to cul­ti­vate rela­tion­ships, per­suade, con­vene, facil­i­tate and build con­sen­sus among diverse individuals
  • Per­son­al qual­i­ties of integri­ty, ini­tia­tive, and pas­sion for improv­ing the lives of KYC’s clients
  • A com­mit­ment to active­ly engage as a vol­un­teer and leader
  • Per­son­al com­mit­ment to diver­si­ty, racial equi­ty, inclu­sion, and belong­ing for all people
