KYC’s mission is to partner with communities to support people of all ages to navigate life’s challenges through personalized prevention, intervention, treatment, and recovery. This work is fulfilled through more than 35 integrated programs serving clients of all ages across the northwest suburbs of Chicago.
Board Membership provides critical leadership, strategy, and partnership with our executive team to grow, support, and advance this mission.
Responsibilities
- Attend and participate in at least 70% of regular and special Board meetings (approximately 8 regular meetings per year and 8 committee meetings)
- Prepare for each Board of Directors meeting by reading material distributed prior to the meeting
- Serve and actively participate on at least one Board committee (Committees include Development/5K, Finance, and Governance)
- Make a personal financial contribution to the organization of at least $1,000 apart from event participation
- Maintain knowledge of current programs
- Share resources and talents with the organization including expertise, contacts for financial support and contacts for in-kind contributions
- Identify individuals for potential membership on the Board of Directors and its committees
- Commit to serve a 3‑year term, renewed annually in July
Qualifications
Ideal candidates will fulfill the following qualifications:
- 8 – 10 years of cumulative professional experience with significant leadership accomplishments or other experience related to KYC’s mission and goals (e.g., philanthropy, lived experience, commitment to mental health services or older adult care, etc.)
- Sound decision making ability
- Demonstrated ability to cultivate relationships, persuade, convene, facilitate and build consensus among diverse individuals
- Personal qualities of integrity, initiative, and passion for improving the lives of KYC’s clients
- A commitment to actively engage as a volunteer and leader
- Personal commitment to diversity, racial equity, inclusion, and belonging for all people
