Providing Affirming Clinical Supports to LGBTQ+ Individuals and Families
Presenter Carolyn Wahlskog (she/they) LCSW, will be holding a training on providing affirming clinical supports to LGBTQ+ individuals and families at Kenneth Young Center’s Elk Grove Village office.
Objectives for this training will include:
- Participants will learn affirming terminology used by LGBTQ+ individuals
- Participants will understand current trends and best practices in serving LGBTQ+ individuals and best practices
- Participants will practice scenarios and tactics for providing affirming clinical practice
- Participants will leave with local, state and national resources to utilize with LGBTQ+ individuals and families.

Presenter Biography
Carolyn Wahlskog, LCSW (she/they) is the Director of Operations and Programming at Youth Outlook, a youth services agency that works to meet the ever-evolving needs of LGBTQ+ youth and their families in northern Illinois. Additionally, Carolyn is the co-coordinator of Transformative Justice Law Project’s Name Change Mobilization, serving trans folks across IL. She serves as an adjunct professor at Jane Addams College of Social Work at University of Illinois at Chicago. Carolyn works with educators, mental health professionals, and other youth workers to create safe, supportive and affirming policies and practices for working with queer and trans young people and their families.
