Pro­fes­sion­al Train­ing Opportunities

We pro­vide a vari­ety of capac­i­ty-build­ing and pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment oppor­tu­ni­ties for indi­vid­u­als, orga­ni­za­tions, and busi­ness in the community.

Ken­neth Young Cen­ter is proud to be a Region­al Sub­stance Use Pre­ven­tion Inte­gra­tion Cen­ter for Cook coun­ty (Non-Chica­go Region). We also pro­vide train­ing on the fol­low­ing topics:

Men­tal Health Aware­ness Train­ing (MHAT)

We pur­pose to reduce men­tal health stig­ma and train peo­ple in Pala­tine, Schaum­burg, Elk Grove Vil­lage, Bloom­ing­dale, Hanover Park, Elgin, Wheel­ing, Maine, Dundee, and Bar­ring­ton in Men­tal Health First Aid for Youth and Adults. We offer Men­tal Health Frist Aid Train­ing for Adults, and Men­tal Health First Aid Train­ing for those work­ing with Youth. Both train­ings are offered in Eng­lish and Spanish.

Men­tal Health First Aid teach­es you how to iden­ti­fy, under­stand, and respond to signs of men­tal ill­ness­es and sub­stance use dis­or­ders. This train­ing gives you the skills to reach out and pro­vide ini­tial sup­port to some­one who may be devel­op­ing a men­tal health or sub­stance use prob­lem and help con­nect them to appro­pri­ate care. AMH­FA is a blend­ed course 2‑hour self-paced online course, and a 5.5‑to 6.5‑hour, Instruc­tor-led training.

Indi­vid­ual or Group train­ing are available.

QPR (Ques­tion. Per­suade. Refer.) Train­ing, respond­ing to some­one in sui­cide ideation.

QPR stands for Ques­tion, Per­suade, and Refer – the three sim­ple steps any­one can learn to help save a life from sui­cide. Peo­ple trained in QPR learn how to rec­og­nize the warn­ing signs of a sui­cide cri­sis and how to ques­tion, per­suade, and refer some­one to help. This is a quick 60 – 90-minute training. 

Sub­stance Use Pre­ven­tion Edu­ca­tion Training

The Region­al Sub­stance Use Pre­ven­tion Inte­gra­tion Cen­ter (RSUPIC) pro­vide ser­vices that will increase the num­ber of SAMH­SA’s Cen­ter for Sub­stance Use Pre­ven­tion (CSAP) strate­gies avail­able and imple­ment­ed in Cook Coun­ty (non-Chica­go) through col­lab­o­ra­tion, train­ing, and sup­port of inte­gra­tion activ­i­ties. We work with oth­er youth pro­grams and agen­cies to pro­vide sup­port to imple­ment CSAP strate­gies into their exist­ing programming.

LGBTQ+ Com­pen­ten­cy and Inclu­siv­i­ty Training

Work with our facil­i­ta­tors to cre­ate inter­ac­tive work­shops that fit your pro­fes­sion­al devel­op­ment needs relat­ed to gen­der, sex­u­al­i­ty, sex­u­al health edu­ca­tion, and relat­ed topics.

Our team can also pro­vide con­sul­ta­tions to ensure your work­place is LGBTQ+ affirm­ing for staff and clients, LGBTQ+ affirm­ing school prac­tices, inclu­sive cur­ricu­lum, and more.

Over­dose Pre­ven­tion Edu­ca­tion and Nar­can training

Our Recov­ery Sup­port Ser­vices team pro­vides com­mu­ni­ty over­dose edu­ca­tion for indi­vid­u­als and groups. Par­tic­i­pants in the ses­sion will learn how to iden­ti­fy and respond to an over­dose, how to admin­is­ter Nalox­one, and res­cue response. Each par­tic­i­pant will receive com­pli­men­ta­ry dos­es of Naloxone.
