Youth Lead­er­ship & Vol­un­teer Opportunities

The Youth Advi­so­ry Coun­cil (YAC) is com­posed of high school stu­dents who either live in or attend school with­in the com­mu­ni­ty. The coun­cil is com­mit­ted to fos­ter­ing pos­i­tive youth devel­op­ment and cre­at­ing mean­ing­ful change through youth-led ini­tia­tives. The YAC oper­ates from August to May, meet­ing reg­u­lar­ly and is led by youth and sup­port­ed by adults.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Engage in a plan­ning process to iden­ti­fy and address issues in the com­mu­ni­ty that influ­ence pos­i­tive youth development
  • Iden­ti­fy ways in which youth’s per­spec­tive can be includ­ed in the deci­sions and activ­i­ties for youth programming
  • Work to ensure a diverse youth per­spec­tive and engagement.
  • Design local com­mu­ni­ca­tion campaigns
  • Devel­op and main­tain com­mit­tee social media accounts
  • Col­lab­o­rate with adult advi­sor to pro­vide direc­tion to the committee
  • Devel­op meet­ing agen­das with staff
  • Col­lab­o­rate with oth­er YACs for ideas and activ­i­ties dur­ing Nation­al Pre­ven­tion Week
