Internship Information

Kenneth Young Center is proud to offer a variety of internship opportunities. We treat our interns as staff and consider them an important part of our agency’s growth into the future. Many therapists, supervisors, and leaders at KYC started as an intern.

Please note that most of the information on this page refers to the Clinical Masters-level program. Specific teams at KYC may offer additional opportunities for students in Undergraduate, 1st year Social Work, Occupational Therapy, and other programs. These positions are listed individually alongside job postings on our Careers page.

Clinical Masters Internship

Every year, KYC partners with accredited graduate programs in social work, psychology, mental health counseling, and more throughout Chicagoland and beyond to host clinical interns across several of our behavioral health teams.

We treat our student interns as staff and consider them an important part of our teams’ and agency’s growth into the future. As an intern, you will work independently and as part of a team to provide a multitude of mental health services:

  • Individual, group, and family therapy
  • Intake and assessment
  • Client-centered goal setting
  • Collaboration with an interdisciplinary team
  • Case management and linkage

Clinical Masters’ interns are receiving a $5000 stipend for the 2024 – 2025 year, with half paid at the end of each semester. This year we were able to offer an additional stipend to BIPOC interns through the IHPA Workforce Development program; we hope to offer this again and will notify schools/students as soon as we have confirmation for the 2025 – 2026 school year.

Interns receive weekly individual supervision with a licensed clinical supervisor.

KYC interns not only have the benefit of learning from their own supervisor and team, they join a cohort of 10+ fellow students with whom they share orientation, group supervision, and other activities during the year.

Students are required to work a minimum of 20 hours a week and can expect about half (50%) of that time to be spent providing direct service. Additional hours are available if needed for your program.

There is no guarantee of remote work for this internship. Some programs are exclusively on-site and/or in the community, while others may include some remote work. Students will receive training in best practices around telehealth.

Clinical (CEU) trainings are provided at least 4 times per year, and interns may attend at no cost.
